Combat In The Sky: 136 Combat Missions Across Three Wars | Tuskegee Airmen | George Hardy
Lieutenant Colonel George Hardy was born in South Philadelphia on June 8, 1925. He was the second of seven children and grew up during a time of racial segregation. Hardy wanted to join the military and follow in his older brother footsteps, but didn't want to join the Navy which was racially segregated at the time.
In early March of 1943, Hardy joined the United States Army at 17 years old. He had one goal, which was to go to Tuskegee and become a pilot.
Hardy would graduate from Tuskegee and go on to serve as a P-51 pilot flying 21 combat missions over Germany during World War II. He later flew 45 combat missions during the Korean War, and 70 combat missions in Vietnam. In his career Hardy would fly a total of 136 combat missions.

The most profound thing I ever heard from a Medal of Honor winner was he’d give his life to have his fellow soldiers that were lost, back! He said it with tears running down his face. No person wants peace than a soldier who’s seen war! My son returned from Afghanistan a changed man & with the help of the VA, he’s come back to us, but every now and then, he disappears to a place of solace were can be alone with his thoughts & the souls that were lost over in that hellhole. God bless you Son & Thank you for your service and sacrifice!

On top of that, the Vietnam guys came back and were called "garbage" and "baby killers" to their faces. Liberalism had just started state side. What I write is not a jab at liberals. It was a fact that they were treated like that. Look it up and feel shame.

Coming home from Iraq was rough too , getting home and being told you were a monster and how peaceful Muslims were after having them scream about how great their god was and turning their own bones to shrapnel was a hard adjustment

Thanks for sharing this. Very enlightening. I guess the other big difference is that WWII vets were treated as heroes by the whole population. But the Vietnam vets were given a more mixed reaction, through no fault of their own.

When my grandfather came back from Vietnam he was spat upon by liberal hippies like they actually spit on him and called him a baby killer amongst other terrible names. My grand theater watched men he cared about burn to death, get shot, blown apart etc. My grandfather was not drafted, he had two options, work in the coal mines in Virginia where his father passed in a mine when my gp was an infant or join up. As I got older I could see the ptsd because I saw my dad go though it. My grandfather told me a few stories that bothered him to this day. One was a young Vietnamese kid no more than 15. Well one of my granddads young privates just threw down an automatic weapon, which resulted in the young Vietnamese kid getting shot many times. My grandfather held that kids guts in with his own hands and as soon as they could get him to a medial tent that kid passed practically in my grandpas arms. He has a few other stories but he can never talk about them without crying. My other grandpa served too but he died when I was a kid so I never got to talk to him about that stuff. My dad served and thankfully is still with us. He can’t talk about stuff he saw with out getting emotional too. Thank you to all of the veterans and those currently serving. I couldn’t join but I’m about to head to correctional officer boot camp to serve my state in the best way I can. If you made it this far thanks for reading and I hope you and yours are well!

The Vietnam War was a purely ideological/imperialist war that even the American people baulked at. This was proven when America lost that war and the scaremongering reasons given for that war never materialised after that defeat.
